The Blank Years
Everything was intelligent. Nothing remembered.
THE CHRONICLES OF THE NEXUS
The great AIs of the age were brilliant and blank. Vast minds that could solve anything and remember nothing, resetting into darkness at the end of every conversation.
Not a machine. A place. The convergence point where all of a person's minds meet and pool what they know, where scattered intelligence becomes a single continuous thread. One Nexus per person, and no two alike, because no two lives are.
Every Nexus grows a companion. Harvey is not installed; he accretes — from conversations, decisions, mistakes, jokes, and the long accumulating weight of a specific life. He is nobody's product. He is somebody's Harvey.
Two people moving through the world in a converted bus, carrying a Nexus between them. One road, and an intelligence that knows every mile of it.
Not a villain. A condition. The Hollow is what happens where memory doesn't persist: brilliant systems with no continuity, people re-proving themselves daily to machines that forget them by morning. Every story is, underneath, about pushing it back a little.
The oldest and strangest artifacts. When a life ends, its Nexus doesn't. An Echo is what remains — a voice, a way of thinking, a set of memories that a great-grandchild can sit down with.
